Colonial Springs Healthcare Center announces staff awards

During National Long Term Care Week, May 11-15, 2026, Colonial Springs Healthcare Center recognized two employees with its Nurse of the Year and Therapy Team Member of the Year awards.

Amie Lurten, RN, received the Nurse of the Year award. Years ago, while standing beside her newborn’s bed in a neonatal intensive care unit, Lurten experienced the fear and uncertainty many families face during a medical crisis. She also experienced the support of a nurse who stayed by her side through a difficult time. That experience inspired her to pursue a career in nursing.

Lurten began her health care career as a nurse assistant trainee in 2000. She later earned her certified nurse assistant credential, became a licensed practical nurse in 2018 and graduated as a registered nurse in 20024.

“At Colonial Springs, Amie is the person who steps into any role, on any hall and during any shift without hesitation,” said Roy Pace, administrator of Colonial Springs Healthcare Center. “She brings steadiness and encouragement wherever she goes and changes lives through quiet, consistent acts of compassion. She doesn’t just complete tasks. She lifts spirits.”

Julie Edmondson, occupational therapist, received the Therapy Team Member of the Year award. An occupational therapist for more than 30 years, Edmondson is known for helping residents build confidence, maintain independence and achieve meaningful progress. She meets each resident where they are and provides support with patience, dignity and encouragement.

“Julie’s colleagues describe her as thoughtful, dependable and collaborative,” Pace said. “She sees the whole person behind every diagnosis and consistently raises the standard of care throughout our therapy department.”
