Lake Stockton HCF resident wins the MHCA District 4 Long-Term Care Pageant
Lavern Fry from Lake Stockton Healthcare Facility is the queen of the Missouri Health Care Association District 4 Pageant.
The MHCA Long-Term Care Pageant was held Friday, June 19, at DoubleTree by Hilton in Springfield. This event highlights the unique life stories and experiences from residents in long-term care facilities. Beginning at a regional level, the competition allows residents to share the highs and lows that have shaped them into the person they are today. While contestants share their stories, a panel of judges picks a winner based mainly on interaction and engagement with the audience and judges.
Fry communicated her story through big smiles, laughter and thoughtful pieces of advice. She was born in Levasy, Missouri, where she grew up with two older brothers. Fry attended high school at Fort Osage, and after graduating began working at the Federal Reserve in Kansas City, where she worked for five years. She married Curtis Scott in 1954 and had two sons, David and Danny, whom she stayed home with.
In April 1978, Fry’s husband was hit and killed by a drunk driver. After this tragic event, she moved to Stockton. Later, in 1981, Fry met and married Lt. Glen Fry of the U.S. Air Force. Glen and Lavern enjoyed traveling together, visiting Canada, Mexico and Europe in addition to all 50 states. Fry also opened her own business, “Lady Bug Estate Sales,” where she worked until she was 83. Her sons both married, and Fry currently has four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Glen passed away in 2022 after 27 years of marriage. Fry is thankful she then made the decision to move to Lake Stockton Healthcare Facility, where she received support after the loss of her son Danny in 2025.
“I have been able to make it through thanks to God, family and friends at Lake Stockton,” she said.
Fry will represent District 4 at the MHCA State Long-Term Care Pageant on Sunday, Aug. 23, at the Branson Convention Center during the MHCA Annual Convention.
