Andrew Carson awarded the April 2026 CMH DAISY Award

Andrew Carson, RN, was named the April 2026 recipient of the CMH DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. Carson is a registered nurse in the Citizens Memorial Hospital Emergency Department.

He was nominated by a patient family member who shared how his calm, patient approach helped ease a frightening emergency visit for a young child.

“Andrew is a special nurse that you don't always find in a busy ER environment,” the family member wrote in the nomination. “My daughter was terrified. When he realized she is a child that likes the process explained to help keep her calm, he took the time to walk her through all the steps of inserting an IV and even hand drew a picture on her IV cover to try and make it seem less scary and to give her something unique with her visit. He was calm, cool and patient all while dealing with a terrified 9-year-old girl. I could not have asked for a better nurse.”

About the DAISY Award

DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. The DAISY Foundation established the award in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at 33 of an autoimmune disease. The international award recognizes nurses for their extraordinary work.

CMH started the DAISY Award program in January 2019. A nurse from CMH or Citizens Memorial Health Care Foundation is honored each month.
