Sports medicine physician Dr. Juris Simanis presents at medical conference

He shared tips on how to better diagnose and treat common injuries such as twisted ankles and knee pain caused by osteoarthritis. He also discussed how to improve the physical exam, the pros and cons of imaging, and how to create stronger treatment plans to help patients recover more effectively.
During the afternoon session, Dr. Simanis led a 2.5-hour workshop on musculoskeletal (MSK) ultrasound attended by wilderness medicine physicians, advanced practitioners and emergency responders. During the session, he discussed how MSK ultrasound is a valuable portable imaging tool for facilitating rapid, proper diagnosis, treatment and stabilization in the field before difficult and dangerous patient extractions from rugged locations.
The conference welcomed more than 500 attendees from across the country and around the world. The Wilderness Medical Society, founded in 1983, is the world's leading nonprofit group focused on medical care in remote and extreme environments.
