CMH dermatologist earns Mohs board certification

Murphy R. Mastin, M.D., a dermatologist at Citizens Memorial Hospital (CMH) Dermatology Clinic in Bolivar, has earned board certification in the dermatology subspecialty Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery, also known as Mohs surgery, through the American Board of Dermatology.

Mohs surgery, named after Frederick E. Mohs, the surgeon who developed the technique, is a precise surgical procedure used to treat skin cancer. The technique involves progressively removing thin layers of cancerous tissue and examining them under a microscope until only cancer-free tissue remains.

Dr. Mastin’s expertise includes the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancers such as melanoma, benign and malignant skin lesions, and other skin conditions such as psoriasis and allergic, photo-induced and pigmentary skin disorders. He also specializes in dermatopathology, cryosurgery, lesion removal, full-body skin exams, and the management of conditions such as adult rashes, acne, warts, blistering skin diseases and skin infections.

Dr. Mastin received his medical degree from the University of Missouri School of Medicine. He completed his internship and dermatology residency at the Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education in Rochester, Minnesota.
