DeFreece receives April 2023 CMH DAISY Award
Mercedes DeFreece, RN, received the April 2023 CMH DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. She is a registered nurse with Citizens Memorial Hospital’s Birth Place.
A mother she cared for at the Birth Place nominated DeFreece for the award.
“Mercedes was the first nurse we saw upon arriving,” the mother wrote. “I wasn’t sure I was in ‘real labor’ but was very exhausted and emotional. She was calm, comforting and encouraging right away! She was overall the best nurse we could have imagined to be with us to welcome a new life into our family.”
About the DAISY Award
DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. The DAISY Foundation established the award in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at 33 of an auto-immune disease. The international award thanks nurses everywhere.
CMH started the DAISY Award program in January 2019. A CMH or Citizens Memorial Health Care Foundation nurse receives the award each month.
