Paige Stevens, RN named winner of the November 2022 CMH DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses
Paige Stevens, a registered nurse with Citizens Memorial Hospital’s Birth Place, was named the November 2022 CMH DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses winner.
Stevens earned her nursing degree in 1993 from Burge School of Nursing (Cox College), Springfield, and began working for CMH in the Birth Place following graduation. Over the last 30 years, Stevens has helped in more than 1,000 deliveries.
“It’s been an honor to be a part of such a special part of all of these families’ lives,” said Stevens.
She was nominated for the DAISY Award by one of the families she cared for as they welcomed a new baby.
“My husband and I would like to thank Paige for the kindness, care and love she showed us while we were in the hospital having our baby boy. I know nurses have a special heart, but I don’t think any others have one that compares to Paige’s,” said the couple in the nomination.
The couple described how Paige helped them through the whole delivery process, “She made us feel welcomed and comfortable through the whole experience… Her generosity and compassion for her patients are unmatched. Still today, when I see Paige out and about, she knows exactly who I am and asks about our baby. Not only did Paige make us feel like we were so special, but she also made us feel like family!”
Stevens said receiving the award is a very humbling experience, but “it’s been such an honor. We’re a family here at the Birth Place and we are usually the happiest place in the hospital,” she says. “But even in the sad times, I feel like I’m right when I need to be.”
About the DAISY Award
DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. The DAISY Award was established by the DAISY Foundation in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died at 33 of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP), an auto-immune disease.
The Barnes Family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring and compassion of the nurses who cared for Barnes, so they created this international award to say thank you to nurses everywhere.
CMH implemented the DAISY Award program in January 2019 to recognize their own extraordinary nurses. Each month a CMH or Citizens Memorial Health Care Foundation nurse will be presented with this recognition.
