What to know about moving into the new patient tower

Citizens Memorial Hospital is opening new spaces in the patient tower in scheduled phases throughout March and April. Some departments will begin seeing patients in new locations, and a few entrances and registration areas will change.

As part of the transition to the new patient tower, entrance names will be changing. The former main hospital entrance will now be referred to as the West Entrance, and the new hospital entrance located at the patient tower will be designated as the Main Entrance.

The new Cafeteria, DJBean Coffee Bar - CMH Hospital and the Gift Garden gift shop opened Monday, March 23, in their new locations in the patient tower.

Please note: The Main Entrance doors to the tower are temporarily closed through March 30 while final work is completed. Staff and visitors may enter through the door to the right of the Main Entrance or use interior hallways to access the Cafeteria, DJBean Coffee Bar and Gift Garden.

Starting March 30, patient registration and an information desk will be available in the new patient tower. An information desk will also remain available in the West Entrance lobby.

Starting March 30, patients registering for surgery or radiology appointments, including MRI and Saturday cath lab procedures, should use the Main Entrance and check in at the patient registration desks in the new tower. They will then be directed to the Radiology/Pre-Op waiting room in the Radiology Department.

Patients coming for lab services will continue to register at the Laboratory Department and should use the West Entrance. If patients enter through the Main Entrance, volunteers will provide directions and maps to the lab.

Patients coming for cath lab procedures, echocardiograms or nuclear medicine stress tests during the week should continue to register at the Heart Institute Clinic.

Beginning April 15, patients needing emergency care should use the new Emergency Department entrance located next to the Main Entrance in the patient tower. This entrance will be open 24/7. The previous Emergency Department entrance will be used for construction access during the next phase of renovation.

The Birth Place will move to the third floor on April 19, the Intensive Care Unit will move to the second floor on April 25 and the Medical Surgical Unit on April 26.

Heart Institute Clinic patients should continue to use the Heart Clinic entrance. Patients using the CMH Infusion Center, which will move from the Douglas Medical Center to the hospital on March 31 and open April 1, and Cardiac Rehab patients should use the West Entrance through April. Beginning in May, they will use the Community Room entrance. The community rooms themselves will not be available until this fall as renovation work continues.

Volunteers will be available at both the Main Entrance and West Entrance information desks to assist with questions and directions. Updated maps, signage and directions will be available throughout the hospital. You can also find updates and maps on the Announcements page of the CMH website, citizensmemorial.com, and on CMH social media channels.
