Missouri Memory Center contributes to Alzheimer’s research presented at international conference
The Missouri Memory Center and Citizens Memorial Hospital’s Research Department recently contributed to a “real world” study evaluating the Alzheimer’s disease treatment Leqembi® (lecanemab).
Preliminary results of the study were presented July 27 at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference in Toronto, the world’s largest gathering of dementia researchers and clinicians, which drew nearly 19,000 registered attendees.
Missouri Memory Center was one of only 12 clinics nationwide selected to participate in the study, which examines the outcomes of patients treated with lecanemab in everyday clinical practice since its U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval two years ago.
During a 90-minute presentation, researchers shared that treatment results in real-world settings are aligning closely with those observed in the original clinical trials that led to lecanemab’s approval.
“This is an exciting moment for Alzheimer’s research,” said Curtis P. Schreiber, M.D., medical director of the Missouri Memory Center and a study investigator who attended the session. “The findings mark an important step in understanding how the medication performs outside of controlled research environments. The consistency between clinical trial outcomes and real-world results offers renewed hope for patients and families affected by this devastating disease.”
The study is ongoing, with additional data collection and analysis planned to further evaluate the long-term impact of lecanemab treatment.
