What is Job Shadowing at CMH?
The Job Shadowing Program is for anyone, including high school or college students, thinking about a career in health care. You will explore a wide range of careers in health care. This program helps you learn and grow, whether you want a clinical or non-clinical role.
While job shadowing, you can:
- Gain hands-on experience by observing professionals in real-world settings.
- Learn from experts across a variety of roles and departments.
- Explore different career paths and discover your passion.
- Build valuable connections with experienced health care professionals.
- Develop insights and skills that will help prepare you for your future in the industry.
You can complete up to 16 hours per provider or preceptor in a department. These experiences allow for deeper, more personalized exposure. You’ll see how health care works, from patient care to behind-the-scenes operations.

How to Apply for CMH's Job Shadowing Program
Step 1: Apply
Complete the application below with your personal details, areas of interest and availability. You will be asked to include:
- Your full name and contact information
- School and grade level (if applicable)
- Departments or specialties you’d like to shadow
- Emergency contact information
- A copy of your driver's license
- Copy of the Job Shadowing Purpose and Guidelines (PDF) signed by you (your supervisor will sign it later)
- Signed consent forms, if under 18 (available from Human Resources)
Step 2: Wait for Confirmation
CMH will review your application and reach out to schedule your shadowing experience. Be patient, as placement depends on availability and department schedules.
Step 3: Prepare for Your Experience
Once accepted, follow instructions provided by CMH, such as dress code requirements, safety protocols, and guidelines for your shadowing day.
