Please contact us seven days before running out of medication. This allows adequate time to process your prescription if any difficulties arise. We may also proactively reach out to you five to seven days before your medication runs out to initiate the refill process. All prescription requests will be handled in a timely manner, but it may take up to 48 hours (or longer if requested over the weekend or on a holiday) for the clinic to respond.

Specialty Pharmacy Services

Filling a Prescription

We will work closely with your provider to ensure all necessary information is gathered before the prescription process starts. The CMH Specialty Pharmacy also stocks various supportive medications, such as anti-nausea drugs.

Medication Management

CMH Medication Management Clinic pharmacists are available to assist with understanding how and when to take your medication, how to manage potential side effects and provide ongoing clinical support when necessary. The CMH Medication Management Clinic is located at 1100 S. Springfield Avenue, Suite B, Bolivar, Missouri — in the Stephens Pharmacy building. You may call 417-328-7880 to make an appointment.

Prescription Transfers

If we are unable to fill your medication for any reason, we will help you transfer your prescription to another trusted pharmacy. If you prefer to receive the medication at your local pharmacy, we can request the physician send a new prescription to any pharmacy of your choosing as long as they have the ability to obtain and dispense the therapy.

Prescription Delivery

We will work with you to determine the most convenient way to receive your medications. We offer home delivery through the mail (in Missouri) or pick up at the pharmacy inside the Carrie J. Babb Cancer Center in Bolivar, Missouri. For FedEx deliveries, we require that someone over age 18 is home to sign for the shipment to ensure it was received.

Medication Substitution

When available, we may substitute a lower-cost generic medication for a brand-name medication unless you or your prescriber has specifically requested use of the brand-name drug. You may receive a generic medication due to your insurance plan preferring the generic option to be dispensed. If a substitution is required, a member of the pharmacy team will contact you before shipping the medication to inform you of the substitution.

Prescription Transfers

If our pharmacy is unable to dispense your medication, a team member will assist in locating a pharmacy that can dispense your medication. You will need to call the new pharmacy to confirm delivery options. If at any time you would like your prescription transferred from CMH Specialty Pharmacy, please have your desired pharmacy call us to transfer the prescription.

Adverse Drug Reactions

If your medication causes unexpected or harmful side effects:

  • Call 911 or have someone drive you to a hospital emergency room if the reaction appears serious or life-threatening.
  • Contact the CMH Specialty Pharmacy and your doctor who prescribed the medicine to report the reaction.

Medication Recalls

CMH Specialty Pharmacy follows the drug recall guidelines outlined by the Federal Drug Administration, the drug manufacturers and/or state and federal regulatory agencies. If your medication is recalled, a pharmacy team member will contact you to discuss next steps, including disposal, replacement, or substitution.

Problem With Your Prescription?

If you notice anything unusual about your medication, such as damage, labeling mistakes or incorrect instructions, call the CMH Specialty Pharmacy at 417-328-4375 immediately.

Emergency Disaster Information

In the event of an emergency or disaster, the pharmacy team will attempt communication with patients by phone, patient portal or mail. Make sure your contact information on file is up to date to avoid delay or disruption in your therapy.

If medications will not be available, the pharmacy team will develop an alternate plan.

If there is a disaster in your area, call 417-328-4375 to tell us where to deliver your medicine.

Medication Disposal

Your pharmacist can help counsel you about safe disposal options. CMH has two locations with medication take-back boxes:

  • Stephens Pharmacy, 1100 S. Springfield Avenue, Bolivar,
  • CMH Specialty Pharmacy, 1501 S. Oakland Avenue, Suite A, Bolivar

Other take-back boxes are located throughout many Missouri communities. The FDA website has helpful information about medication disposal and a searchable database of medication disposal locations.

Proper Disposal of Sharps

Place all needles, syringes, and other sharp objects in a sharps container. We’ll provide one if you are prescribed an injectable medication. For instructions on how to properly dispose of sharps in your community, check with your local waste collection service.

Billing and Payment Process

Insurance Coverages

CMH Specialty Pharmacy can dispense medications for a variety of Medicare plans and private insurance plans. We will submit claims to your health or prescription insurance carrier on the date your prescription is filled. If your insurance plan requires pre-authorization, it may take additional time to complete.

If your insurance requires a different pharmacy, we will transfer the prescription to that pharmacy.

Medication Cost

Your cost will depend on your insurance plan. We will inform you if your prescription is not covered by your insurance plan or other third-party sources. These costs include, but are not limited to: out-of-pocket costs such as deductibles, copays, co-insurance, annual and/or lifetime co-insurance limits, and changes that may occur during the enrollment period.

Financial Assistance

If you can’t afford your copay, we will help you enroll in available financial assistance programs to minimize financial barriers to starting your medication.

We make every attempt to enroll eligible patients in available financial assistance programs from drug manufacturers or other supportive organizations. To apply, you must complete forms and provide proof of income, such as tax documents, Social Security statements, and/or bank statements. It is important to know not all patients qualify for financial assistance.

Payments

All balances must be paid before receiving your medication. We accept major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover), cash, personal checks, money orders and most flexible spending accounts and health savings accounts. If you need help in arranging a payment plan, please call the pharmacy to discuss payment options.

If you get a check from your insurance company, you should send it to CMH Specialty Pharmacy with a copy of the Explanation of Benefits (EOB) statement you received.
