Colonial Springs Healthcare Center to host free Medicare education session
The Social Services Department at Colonial Springs Healthcare Center will host a free community education session about Medicare on Tuesday, Sept. 8, from 6-7:30 p.m. The session is open to Medicare beneficiaries, caregivers and anyone interested in learning more about Medicare.
Ben Franklin, a Missouri State Health Insurance Assistance Program (Missouri SHIP) strategic outreach team member and volunteer counselor, will present "Medicare Made Simple." Missouri SHIP provides free, unbiased and confidential Medicare counseling and education and does not sell insurance products.
The session will provide an overview of Original Medicare, including Parts A, B and D; Medicare Advantage plans; and Medicare supplement insurance, also known as Medigap. Franklin also will discuss Medicare enrollment periods and when beneficiaries can make changes to their coverage.
Additional topics will include important notices Medicare beneficiaries receive, free preventive services, the Medicare appeals process, reporting suspected Medicare fraud and resources available through Medicare.gov.
The session is designed for people who are new to Medicare, current beneficiaries who want a refresher and caregivers or family members helping someone navigate Medicare coverage.
