CMH to break ground on new dialysis center

Citizens Memorial Hospital will host a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. for its new dialysis center. The public is invited to attend. The center will be located at 1160 W. Parkview St. in Bolivar.

The ceremony will be held in the field west of the CMH OB/GYN and Pediatric Clinic and Bolivar Technical College. Parking for the event will be available in the west lot near Bolivar Technical College.

The 10,000-square-foot facility will cost about $9 million and is being financed by OakStar Bank in Springfield. Pulse Design Group, Kansas City, is the architect, and JE Dunn, Springfield, is the general contractor. The CMH Dialysis Center is expected to open in fall 2025.

The center will have 16 hemodialysis chairs, each facing the large windows offering scenic views. It will also feature a patient room for home peritoneal and hemodialysis education, a waiting room, staff support areas and a water room. The CMH Nephrology Clinic, which opened last month in the Douglas Medical Center, will move into the dialysis center once the building is complete.

“We took great care in designing this dialysis center,” said Michael Calhoun, CEO and executive director of CMH and CMH Foundation. “Patients spend hours each week in those chairs, and we wanted them to have a great view while they are receiving excellent care. Many dialysis clinics have chairs facing the nurses’ station or a wall, but we wanted to offer a different experience in this new center. We’re also excited to include the nephrology clinic in this building. It is an added benefit for patients to have access to our nephrologist, Dr. Davis, and nephrology services all in this new dialysis center.”

Dr. Russell Davis, nephrologist, joined the CMH medical staff and the new CMH Nephrology Clinic in September 2024. He specializes in diagnosing and treating a wide range of kidney conditions, including acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, cystic kidney disease, diabetic nephropathy, hypertension, kidney stones, kidney infections, end-stage renal disease, urinary tract infections and more.
