CMH announces two TULIP Award winners

Two Citizens Memorial Hospital employees were named TULIP Award winners. Paulette Ivey, laboratory assistant at CMH’s lab was the June 2022 recipient, and Shelbie Henderson, medical assistant at CMH Wound Center, was the July 2022 recipient.

The TULIP Award was established June 2021 by CMH and Citizens Memorial Health Care Foundation and is a recognition program for outstanding nursing assistants, medical assistants and patient care technicians who assist in direct patient care.

Paulette Ivey

Ivey received her training while working for Cox Hospital in 1983. She has worked in the laboratory department at CMH for 22 years.

Ivey was nominated her for the TULIP Award by a coworker for going above and beyond her duties in the lab, providing great customer service and always being positive.

The nomination stated: “Paulette provides excellent customer service while providing excellent care. When all else fails on a patient who is a hard stick, Paulette is called upon to work her magic. She serves a role of lab coordinator, though she is willingly on the floor drawing more than is ideal and more than we would like. She still gets that work done, makes sure the other lab assistants are taken care of, makes sure the patient are taken care of, and comes to work with a pleasant smile. Paulette is a deserving TULIP award winner.”

Shelbie Henderson

Henderson has worked at the CMH Wound Center for almost four years starting as a front desk receptionist and then earning her medical assistant license earlier this year.

She was nominated for the TULIP Award by one of her patients for having a positive attitude and going above and beyond to help patients feel comfortable.

The nomination stated: “Shelbie worked hard and kept a pleasant attitude with all my complications before a procedure. I believe she went above and beyond her nursing duties to make me feel comfortable during the procedure. She is amazing.”
