Julie Gordon, RN, receives June 2026 CMH DAISY Award
Julie Gordon, RN, with Citizens Memorial Hospital’s Birth Place, received the June 2026 CMH DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
Gordon was nominated by two families who experienced her compassionate care during the births of their children. Both nominations recognized her kindness, calm demeanor and dedication to providing exceptional care to patients and their families.
One nominator recalled arriving for the birth of her first child feeling anxious and unsure of what to expect. Throughout a lengthy labor, Gordon provided encouragement, comfort and reassurance.
“Although she had many other things to do, I always felt like my baby and I were her highest priority,” the nominator wrote. “I will truly never forget Julie, her caring heart, helping hand and all she did for us.”
The nominator also shared that Gordon continued checking on the family after they returned home, answering breastfeeding questions and following up to see how they were doing.
A second nomination praised Gordon for making the entire family feel cared for during labor and delivery.
“From the moment she walked into the room, she treated not only my daughter, but our entire family with kindness, compassion and genuine concern,” the nominator wrote. “She made us feel like we were her only patients.”
The nominator also recognized Gordon for remaining calm during an unexpected medical situation and for staying beyond the end of her shift to continue caring for patients and supporting her coworkers.
“She made us feel safe, valued and genuinely cared for during one of life’s biggest moments,” the nominator wrote. “She represents the very best of nursing.”
About the DAISY Award
DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. The DAISY Foundation established the award in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 of an autoimmune disease. The international program recognizes the extraordinary and compassionate care nurses provide every day.
CMH began participating in the DAISY Award program in January 2019. Each month, a nurse from Citizens Memorial Hospital or Citizens Memorial Health Care Foundation is selected for the award.
