John Goddard honored as MHCA District 4 Employee of the Year
John Goddard, a floor finisher and environmental services employee at Ash Grove Healthcare Facility, has been recognized as the Missouri Health Care Association District 4 Employee of the Year.
Goddard received the award, which recognizes outstanding non-nursing employees who demonstrate exceptional service in long-term care. Additional district awards honor certified nursing assistants, nurses and nursing home administrators.
Goddard was nominated by LeeAnn Collins, environmental services supervisor, and Alecia Robinson, administrator of Ash Grove Healthcare Facility, for his dedication to residents, coworkers and the facility.
He was honored during the Missouri Health Care Association’s 78th Annual Convention and Trade Show on Aug. 24 in Branson, where district award recipients from across Missouri were recognized for their contributions to the long-term care profession.
“John has worked at Ash Grove Healthcare Facility for more than 14 years, and every day he finds a way to brighten someone else’s day,” Robinson said. “Whether he’s singing for residents, helping a coworker or simply making time to visit with someone who needs a smile, he reminds us what long-term care is all about. We are so proud to see him receive this recognition.”
Residents and coworkers know him simply as “Big John.” During the COVID-19 pandemic, when outside entertainers were unable to visit, he volunteered to sing for residents to brighten their days. He continues to sing for residents today, and they still look forward to hearing him sing.
Collins and Robinson said Goddard is always willing to lend a hand to coworkers and is a tireless advocate for residents. They said his greatest reward isn’t recognition, but the smiles he receives from the people he cares for each day. Families often stop by to see him even after their loved one has passed away, a testament to the lasting impact he has made through his kindness and compassion.
District recipients are selected from nominations submitted by long-term care facilities throughout Missouri.
Ash Grove Healthcare Facility is one of seven long-term care communities operated by Citizens Memorial Health Care Foundation, providing skilled nursing, rehabilitation and residential care services across southwest Missouri.
