Two additional Colonial Springs employees test positive for COVID-19, residents not infected

Two additional Colonial Springs Healthcare Center employees have tested positive for COVID-19. No residents have been infected with the virus.

Colonial Springs is a skilled nursing facility in Buffalo and is owned and operated by Citizens Memorial Health Care Foundation, Bolivar.

One hundred eight Colonial Springs employees and 115 residents were tested during a mass testing event at the facility July 10. The two additional positive cases were asymptomatic and were tested during mass testing. The first Colonial Springs employee who tested positive was reported July 8. The thee employees are quarantined at home.

All Colonial Springs employees now wear eye protection in addition to wearing masks and other PPE during their shifts. All employees are screened at the beginning of their shifts for symptoms of coronavirus including fever. Any staff members who have tested positive or develop symptoms of COVID-19 will not return to work until they are recovered and receive clearance.

Colonial Springs and CMH Foundation administration along with Citizens Memorial Hospital infection prevention staff are working closely with the Dallas County Health Department and state and federal agencies to minimize exposure risks and prevent an outbreak.

All Colonial Springs residents and staff will be monitored closely for any symptoms. Another mass testing event is scheduled for next week.
